The word “wellness” can be read in a magazine, heard from personal trainers in Pasadena, but when it comes down to it, what is wellness? According to the dictionary, wellness means, “a state or condition of being in good physical and mental health.” There are seven dimensions of wellness. The seven dimensions include: occupational, spiritual, intellectual, social, environmental, physical, and emotional.
What is Wellness To You?
Occupational
Occupational wellness is a major factor when it comes to having a personal satisfaction and appreciating your own work in a professional setting. If your occupational wellness is not at what is ideal for yourself, it may be a smart choice to find a job that is full of satisfaction and enrichment.
Spiritual
Peace and harmony are important to have in our lives. A personal meaning on the values of your life are necessary to use and help with daily struggles and coping with various issues in everyday life.
Intellectual
When new ideas come, an open mind is important to have in order to expand your mind to understand and acknowledge the new ideas. This is important for anyone when it comes to community, school, work and various cultural understandings.
Social
This can be one of the more difficult of the seven dimensions because of social networking now. It is critical to have a comfortable and supportive social group. This type of social wellness can range from friendships to romantic relationships.
Environmental
Environmental wellness is a balance between yourself and the environment. Being able to respect nature physically and emotionally is a major piece of wellness.
Emotional
Emotional wellness can be difficult and easy to spot. If you are stressed or anxious, it is a time to then take a step back and take care of your emotional wellness.
Physical
When it comes to wellness, physical is what people assume wellness to be. Physical wellness can be seen through exercise, eating a healthy diet, getting a proper amount of sleep, and knowing when to get help with health issues.
